Kanesville

Today was a wonderful day of learning parts of church history that I knew little about. We always hear about Winter Quarters but I knew next to nothing about Kanesville. Winter Quarters was the headquarters of the church after the pioneers crossed Iowa but only lasted two years because it was in Indian territory and they couldn’t legally stay longer. So they either moved on west or crossed the river back into Kanesville. It became a very large settlement and outfitting place for pioneers and it was here they reorganized the first presidency after 3 years without it.  They built this tabernacle in 3 weeks in December so they could have a conference to sustain Brigham Young and counselors. It was also in Kanesville that the Mormon Battalion was recruited.
