The Nauvoo Temple has an assembly room that people can look into but not enter. It is like the Kirtland temple with the pulpits on both ends. It is only used about twice a year with 1st Presidency permission and today was one of those very special occasions. Dad had a meeting for sealers the hour before so I sat in the Assembly room with many others, listening to beautiful organ prelude music, reflecting on this beautiful building with its hundreds of inverted stars on the walls that represent Christ (the temple is full of them inside and out). It was such a reverent hour. The temple presidency and wives each spoke and I don’t have words to tell what a sacred and powerful spirit was there in each talk. Their love for this sacred place and the sacred work that goes on here and for all the people who serve in the temple in any capacity - laundry, engineers, security, office workers, custodians, patrons, ordinance workers- was felt by all. One thought that was shared I really loved - our dedication OF a temple is not as important as our dedication TO the temple. I’m so grateful for the things I’ve learned here and felt here and done here. I’m trying hard to spend each day in such a way that when I leave I will be able to say I gave the Lord a full measure of service and used almost all of my time in learning and serving with all my heart. I love this mission.
I loved this post, Mom. Thank you for your love of and dedication TO the Temple. I'm thankful for the example you and Dad are setting.
